Conventional/commercially made soaps contain preservatives, artificial scents, cheap, unnatural and synthetic ingredients, such as Sodium Laureth Sulfate or Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, petroleum and are often high in animal fats.  They tend to cost less, however they are very unhealthy for your skin (and the rest of the body because we absorb the chemicals into our blood stream through the skin) and have a significant negative impact on the environment.

Natural soaps, such as the collection from Faerhaven we carry at Alma, are made with fewer, simpler and natural ingredients such as natural oils, colours and fragrances of the natural world.  They contain no phosphates or sulfates.

Made in a time-honored fashion, the natural soap making process involves involves a simple chemical reaction between oils and lye (sodium hydroxide for bars).  All soap is made with lye, but the finished product does not contain any lye. The lye/fat mixture is converted to glycerin through a chemical reactions.  Glycerin is a natural by-product, which results in an excellent cleanser with luxurious lather, which does not strip your skin of it’s natural oils.

Currently at Alma, we proudly offer a beautiful selection of natural soaps from Faerhaven.  They include Bliss, Mother Earth, Goat’s Milk Lavender and a Cedarwood Lime Shaving Soap.
